1 iw Firm i On the afternoon of Oct. 9th, '83, Sir. B. Humphreys, of Itta Bena and Miss Louise Yerger of Greenville, were married at the summer resideuco of the bride's parents iu Ciloxi. Those who know them can but congratulate each upon their excellent taste in choosing a part ner for life.

The bride is a woman, of fine character and pleasing manners, such an one as will wear worthily the name which she now bears, which pales not beside the brightest which sheds lustre on the name of Mississippi. The groom is one of Leflore's most popular young men. No man in the county is more loved and respected than he, combining as he does the honesty and integrity, push and energy of a successful career, with tho suavity and geni- ility of a delightful companion. AYe extend to him our heartiest congratulations, and wish him and his fair bride the same good fortune in their future as they have met with in marriage. The meeting which was called last Tuesday evening by the ladies to devise plans and means to im prove the cemetery, was not well attended, and the meeting was postponed until next Monday evening at 3 o'clock.

Tho meeting will be held iu the Court house. A large attendance is desired as this is a matter which should be attend ed to. i I oun r.ioiisfi: compress. The cupola has been framed and raised upon the immense brick and cement foundation. This in reality the derrick by which the heavy parts of the Compress are raised. It is fiftv-four feet hick About 270.000 poun Is have already arrived, and about 140.1300 pounds are still to come. The portions of the press that should have been shipped first were delayed by the contractor at Galveston on account of their heavy weights.

On that account work has been about stop ped here, until these pieces one of which weighs over 50.000 pounds arrive. A large gang of hand3 are still unloading cars. The failure of the I. C. railroad at this placo to put in a side track cost the Compress much work and money, a3 a side-track was put up on cribs built of cross ties and heavy stringers.

Despite all obstacles our 90 inch Morse Compress will soon be in operation and Greenwood will in 3 years, market at least 40.000 bales of cotton.
